Gen. Michael Langley, commander, U.S. Africa Command, is prioritizing face-to-face engagement to build our relationships and support partners in Africa.
Senior leaders from both militaries highlighted the strengthened partnership forged by the medical teams after two weeks of working together to provide critical care to approximately 60 patients in Luanda.
The trip included several stops to meet with host nation civilian and military leaders, U.S. Chiefs of Mission, and U.S. Marines currently in the region.

Gen. Langley, meeting with partners in North and West Africa from Feb. 6-11, 2023, continued his trip in Algeria by meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Algeria Elizabeth Moore Aubin. The U.S. employs a whole-of-government approach to ensure security cooperation with Algeria counters violent extremism and supports peace in the region.

During his first visit to Libreville, Gabon, from Jan. 17-18, 2023, Langley met with President Ali Bongo Ondimba and Minister of Defense Felicite Ongouori Ngoubili (not pictured) to discuss shared security interests, opportunities to increase multilateral training engagements and future areas of potential cooperation.

Gen. Langley, commander, and Sgt. Maj. Thresher, senior enlisted leader, laid a wreath at the North Africa American Cemetery & Memorial in Carthage, Tunisia, during a recent trip to honor the final resting place for 2,841 American soldiers who served during World War II. The visit to Tunisia began with a visit to Morocco and was Langley's third to Africa since taking command.
