Amb, Peter Bodde, U.S. Ambassador to Libya spoke during a media engagement hosted by the Prime Minister of Libya's Unity Government Fayez al -Sarraj during a recent visit to Tripoli, Libya May 23, 2017. Bodde was joined by U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Thomas D. Walhauser, Commander, U.S. Africa Command. This marks the first time a a high ranking U.S. military official has been in Libya since 2014.

At the request of the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command conducted a collective self-defense airstrike against ISIS-Somalia on April 18, 2025.
In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command conducted airstrikes against advanced conventional weapons aboard a flagless vessel and a smaller supporting vessel inside Somalia territorial waters on April 16, 2025.
