The Commander's Speaker Series presents Major General Moses Bisong Obi at

the Kelley Theater, Tuesday, 13 December 2011 from 1330-1500. The title of

Maj. Gen. Obi's lecture is "Waging Peace in Independent South Sudan". Maj.

Gen. Obi is the Force Commander of the U.N. Mission in the Republic of South

Sudan. UNMISS is on the ground to consolidate peace and security and to help

establish conditions for development. Major General Obi has served in two

previous United Nations peacekeeping missions, as Platoon Commander in the

United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and as Deputy Sector

Commander in the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL).

He was also Commanding Officer of the ECOWAS [Economic Community of West

African States] Monitoring Group (ECOMOG), Commanding Officer of the

Multi-National Joint Task Force Operation in Lake Chad, and Acting Commander

of the ECOMOG Ground Task Force in Liberia. Major General Obi attended the

Armed Forces Command and Staff College and the Nigerian Defense Academy.
