Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa (CNE-CNA) personnel closed out an Africa Partnership Station (APS) 2011 training hub in Cameroon, June 22, 2011.

The training evolution lasted 16 days and consisted of cross-service training addressing law at sea, port security, maritime interdiction operations, small boat maintenance, and medical training.

"The training went well, considering the many dynamic re-adjustments due to significant world events," said Chief Warrant Officer Eve Mcanallen. "Without the direct support of the Cameroonian Military and the soldiers' willingness to learn, this training evolution would not have been so successful."

APS brings together an international team of expert trainers in a variety of military capabilities and a handful of civilian fields and included training teams from Cameroon, Senegal, and multiple U.S. Military commands including; Maritime Civil Affairs Training Command, U.S. Army 10th Medical Group, and U.S. Naval Forces Africa.

Captain Susan Dunlap, director of Africa Regional Engagement Group for U.S. Naval Forces Africa, presented certificates of appreciation to members of the training team, along with a plaque displaying the Navy's appreciation for the chance to share a partnership with the Cameroonian Military at a graduation ceremony hosted by Cameroonian Major General Mohamadou Saly.

"The Navy would like to give a special thank you to the instructors," said Dunlap. "They provided a successful learning environment, and were integral in replacing the training usually taught by the U.S. Navy asset in port."

Following Dunlap's speech, Saly shared his view on what partnership meant to the Cameroonian people and military.

"I want to thank the American military soldiers for the training they performed in the last two weeks, and the students for giving their attention in full to the instructors," said Saly. "Long live the partnership between African nations and Cameroon, and mostly long live the relationship between Cameroon and the United States."

APS is an international security cooperation initiative, facilitated by Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, aimed at strengthening global maritime partnerships through training and collaborative activities in order to improve maritime safety and security in Africa.
