Name: Anne Knight Unit and Duty Title: Strategic Communication Branch Chief, Outreach Directorate, U.S. Africa Command Hometown: Columbia, South Carolina Profile: A former State Department human rights officer, Anne Knight now develops strategies to build bridges between U.S. Africa Command and the many stakeholders also interested in security and stability in Africa. She relishes using her French linguistic skills and finds them particularly useful in building relationships with stakeholders in francophone countries. Among her favorite responsibilities is talking with newcomers at the command about the diversity of culture and perspective found across the African continent. After one such briefing, a new service member told her that she "spoke 'DoD' better than any other civilian" he had met -- quite amazing for a former Peace Corps volunteer (Burkina Faso, 1999-2002). Anne joined the command in March 2008, six months before it officially stood up, and is proud to be a command plank-holder and "team-mate." Favorite Quote: "A desk is a dangerous place from which to view the world." -John le Carré
