ABOUT THE MARCH
The start of the march is located a short distance from the new symbol of Stuttgart – the Stuttgart Television tower. An interesting fact about Stuttgart and its environs is that there are more forests, parks and vineyards than in any other major city of Germany. This year's trail will be different than from previous years' walks. All trails (7, 12 and 22 km's) will include walking through forests and paths in the neighboring country side of the TV tower. While, the 22 Km trail will offer a spectacular views of Stuttgart following along paths and trails that are several hundred years old. However, it is recommended that the 22 km trail should be only attempted by experienced volksmarchers familiar with doing the longer distance.

While the 7 km is stroller friendly, there is also the added shade in the forest. The 12 km trail along with the 22 km trail will pass by the Stuttgart Television tower, arriving at the first control located at a scenic observation point overlooking the city of Stuttgart. All trails, will include a farm that belongs to the Hohenhiem University, where a control or break area will be set up. There food and beverages can be purchased and free tea will be available as well.

A recommendation would be to enjoy both the short and long trails, as they are distinctly different in landscape and many interesting sights along the trail.

The prize offered for this year's walk is a previous year's souvenir of either a beverage glass or a medal coin. The beverage glass is a wonderful keepsake of Germany and would be a nice gift for family and friends. You are welcome to purchase as many of the glasses as you wish for the same price as the start card with medallion.

Both, Saturday and Sunday at the start/finish of the march, there will be food, beverages and music. Many German walkers look forward to a little bit of American flavor that the Stuttgart German-American Wandering club offers.

I am looking forward to meeting and welcoming all volksmarchers and especially any new marchers. Recommend that if you have previously done a march to invite a friend who has not done a march and bring them with you to this year's march. We will have members available to explain the sport of volksmarching to all newcomers.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED

To make our annual walk at end of July a success we need more volunteers in a lot of areas: kitchen, drinking area, re-supply driver, parking area, youth walk, control points and many more.

DIRECTIONS:

From Patch Barracks, take A-8 east direction München. Take Exit 52 (Stuttgart-Zentrum-Degerloch) and turn north on B-27 direction Degerloch. Freeway ends; stay in right lane. You will be traveling next to the U-bahn tracks on your right. Go through approx 4 stop lights, watching for the white sign with picture of the TV Tower (Fernsehturm ) and Gazi Stadion. Bear to the right at this light onto Jahn Str. Continue through Degerloch. You will see the TV Tower ahead of you. Pass entrance to tower and at the next stop light, take a Right turn onto Kircheimer Str. A very short distance is another stop light. Proceed straight (slight left) toward Ostfildern-Heumaden. You will cross some train tracks. Continue parallel to tracks on your Right into Sillenbuch. You will see straight ahead a large blue and white building. Continue in this direction. At stop light in front of blue and white building, turn Right (about 7 lights). Go one short block and turn left toward Riedenberg. Stay left following the white sign to Sportahlagen. There is a very modern yellow and wooden school on the left. At the next stop light, turn Right into the driveway of the Heumaden Sports Club. This is our Starthalle for the Volksmarch.

-OR-

You can take the U-Bahn to Schemppstr in the Sillenbuch area and walk to the Sportshalle by walking down Kemnater Strasse and follow the signs that say Sportahlagen and there is a very modern yellow and wooden school on the left. At the next stop light, turn right into the drive way of the Heumaden Sports Club. This is our Starthalle. You are more than welcome to ask the locals where the Heumaden Sports Club is and I am sure they can tell you.
