The holiday season is a special time for us wherever we are to celebrate our many blessings.

I know that many of you will be spending the holidays away from your families. To those serving our nation overseas, I want you to know how much your service and your personal sacrifice, and that of your family, is appreciated. Thank you for all you do here in Europe, Africa, the United States, and around the world.

I also want to thank our African partners who are working to make Africa a more stable and peaceful place.

The work being done in Africa serves as a model of what can happen when we join together to make the world more stable and secure for future generations. All of us share in our wish for peace on earth and good will to all.

My wife, Joyce, and I wish you all the joy that this season can bring. Please stay safe, enjoy the season, and all the best for a fantastic 2010!

Happy Holidays!

General William "Kip" Ward

Commander, U.S. Africa Command
