On the first of October, CJTF-HOA transitioned from US Central Command to the newest combatant command in the Department of Defense, US Africa Command. As our new commander, General Kip Ward said when he visited us in Djibouti in late September, as Africa Command will "increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our military programs on this continent."

Africa Command consolidates US military operations under one unified command where, in the past, Africa had been split between US European, Central and Pacific commands. This new command is a historic and positive change, and strengthens the mission of CJTF-HOA. We expect that as US Africa Command evolves, CJTF-HOA will evolve along with it.

This is an exciting time to be living and working in Africa. Every day, we see progress in our partner nations' capabilities and in our own understanding of this vital region. I am constantly impressed by the professionalism and dedication by every Sailor, Marine, Soldier, Airman and civilian working far from home to bring security and stability to the Horn of Africa and East Africa.

My thanks go out to all of you for keeping the home fires burning. You are in our thoughts and prayers as we know we are in yours.
