The U.S. Embassy in Senegal is collaborating with the Seychelles Ports Authority and the Seychelles Coast Guard to host a 13-person dive and salvage team from Commander Task Force 68 from Dec. 3-22, 2022.

On Dec. 10, 2022, journalists in Seychelles were invited to watch some of the action at the Dive and Salvage Engagement.

During the event, the U.S. team from CTF-68 and select divers from the Seychelles Defence Forces SCG worked together to remove the submerged wreckage of the Oceans Bounty vessel, which has been underwater for several years and is hazardous to maritime navigation in the port area.

During his remarks, Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Kohlmann noted that the engagement “highlights the robust security cooperation between Seychelles and the United States.”

CTF 68, headquartered in Rota, Spain, commands all Navy Expeditionary Forces in the U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command areas of responsibility and is responsible for providing EOD operations, naval construction, expeditionary security, and theater security efforts in direct support of U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and U.S. Sixth Fleet.
