"I know firsthand how hard it is to be stationed overseas away from your family and friends. I'm extremely grateful for everyone at U.S. Africa Command, and I want you to know how proud you make me every single day," Austin said.
While in Germany, Austin first met with German Minister of Defence Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer and Chancellery Foreign and Security Policy Adviser Dr. Jan Hecker, to reinforce the value the United States places on the bilateral defense relationship with one of its closest NATO Allies. Other topics of discussion included combating the malign influence of shared strategic rivals, and continued dialogue on U.S. force posture in Germany and elsewhere.
