STUTTGART, Germany - Maj. Gen. Salim Mustafa Kijuu, land force commander of the Tanzanian People's Defence Force, and Brig. Gen Zoma Mathik Kongo, director of operations for the TPDF, visited U.S. AFRICOM in Stuttgart, Germany as part of a command sponsored visit coordinated by U.S. Army Africa.

Command sponsored visits bring together senior land force commanders from nations around the world to discuss mutual security concerns and to increase interoperability.

During the visit, Kijuu and Kongo received a command briefing explaining AFRICOM’s missions and structure and they participated in a commanders and staff round table video teleconference with the Joint Task Force Horn of Africa.

The visit is one example of an ongoing relationship with the Tanzanian military. USARAF hosted the annual Gender Mainstreaming Seminar in Tanzania in May of this year and will conduct the African Land Forces Summit and the Eastern Accord 16 exercise in Tanzania next year.  These visits help build partnerships over time and across echelons, the key concept behind USARAF's African Horizons strategy.
