CONGRATULATIONS to the Sailors here at Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa and around the globe as you celebrate the 237th birthday of the United States Navy.
On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress established the Navy by procuring two warships to cruise for munitions ships supplying the British Army in America. While the Navy's mission has evolved significantly in 237 years, its essential role of providing maritime security to this great nation has not changed. Without a doubt, our Navy is the finest maritime force the world has ever seen.
Today - and every day - we are proud to serve alongside you here in East Africa to promote increased security and stability while also building and strengthening our strategic partnerships. Our Sailors embody the core values of honor, courage and commitment, and they are instrumental in the success of the CJTF-HOA mission.
I'd also like to express my gratitude to the families, friends and loved ones of our Sailors who are holding down the fort back home. You are an integral part of our mission's success, and I thank you for your unwavering support.
So, happy 237th birthday, Sailors. On behalf of your joint teammates at CJTF-HOA, we look forward to serving alongside you - now and for many years to come.
